Mac OS X Release Historic, Apple Says; Over 1 Million Downloads Completed
Apple has said users are buying the Mac OS X Lion, the latest version of the company's desktop operating system, 'faster than any other OS release in Apple’s history.'
Over one million users have already downloaded the latest version hours after Apple released the eighth major release of the Mac operating system. The latest version sported around 250 new features and was available on Mac App Store for $29.99.
“Lion is the best version of OS X yet, and we’re thrilled that users around the world can download it starting today ... Lion makes upgrading a Mac easier than ever before; just launch the Mac App Store, buy Lion with your iTunes account, and the download and install process will begin automatically,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice-president of Worldwide Product Marketing, at the launch.
Hours later, Schiller came with an update, saying that over one million users have already downloaded the new version. He said the Lion has made great start and that 'user reviews and industry reaction have been fantastic.
Lion is a huge step forward, it's not only packed with innovative features but it's incredibly easy for users to update their Macs to the best OS we've ever made, he said.
The Mac OS X was the first version of the operating system to be available through the Mac App Store and its availability as a 4-gigabyte download apparently made it easier for more people to get access to it faster.
The revolutionary upgrade offers a range of features like better integrated hardware and software, a fluid, natural and intuitive interface, higher ease of use, as well as improved apps features. It also boasts of other features like auto save features, multiple full-screen apps and faster, smoother file sharing.
