‘Magic Castle’: How To Get Newly-Released PlayStation 1 RPG

“Magic Castle,” a fantasy action RPG for the PS1, would’ve been a great game for the legendary Sony console, but it never saw the light of day during its time. Thankfully, it has now been completed and is available for download, its developers said.

“Magic Castle,” created by a small team of Japanese developers, was pitched to several game companies in 1998, but it never saw a release for the PS1, Kotaku reported. About two decades later, one of the game’s original developers, who goes by the name PIROWO, found the game’s source code, contacted one of the game’s other devs and decided to finally finish and release it.

The result is a role-playing game that “looks cool as hell, not just for its isometric style, but for a number of very modern touches like a customizable UI and dynamic music,” Kotaku noted.

Net Yaroze, the website where the game can be accessed for free, provides descriptions about the game as well as a short interview with the two developers who worked on finishing “Magic Castle.”

According to Net Yaroze, the game puts players in the role of a character whose “goal is to find the items and grow your character and ultimately get the illusionary treasure.” It doesn’t indicate what kind of treasure this is, but it’s easy to understand that it’s up for players to discover what it is as they explore the “Magic Castle” and survive the dangers that lie in wait within.

Players will be given four kinds of characters to choose from:

• The “Knight” is good at short-ranged attacks. It uses swords and shields to fight enemies.
• “Magicians” use magic to deal damage to enemies. They can also fly.
• “Archers,” as the name implies, are great at long-ranged attacks using bows and arrows.
• “Fighters” are close-combat fighters with great strength and agility.

Gamers can play co-op modes with up to three other people. Players will also be able to share the items they find with others when they play co-op modes.
