‘Magic Mike XXL’ CinemaCon Trailer Reveals Jada Pinkett Smith Is The New Boss In Town
The cast of “Magic Mike XXL” made a surprise appearance onstage at Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners, in Las Vegas Tuesday. Not only did the film’s stars, Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Joe Manganiello and Kevin Nash feign the beginning of a strip routine and throw money into the audience, they also premiered a new trailer for the forthcoming dramatic comedy.
While previous trailers focused on the A-lister’s shirtless strip teases, the CinemaCon trailer instead offered other scenes from the film that were not so sexually-charged. “We didn’t want to show the best parts of the movie in this trailer,” read the tagline.
After showing a few shots of Mike (Channing Tatum) doing construction, a car driving down a road, among other non-exciting moments, a shot of Big Dick Richie (Manganiello) dancing provocatively on a soda machine showed up onscreen. A continuation of the tagline, “But it was hard to resist,” followed.
Unlike the first “Magic Mike” film which starred Matthew McConaughey as Dallas, the head of the male strippers, “XXL” appears to have a new lead in Jada Pinkett Smith.
“This game is evolve or die,” Pinkett’s character says to the boys in the teaser. “Let’s see if there is still magic in that Mike,” she tells Tatum’s character.
The trailer concluded with the hashtag #comeagain. “Magic Mike XXL” also stars series newcomers Amber Heard, Elizabeth Banks, and Andie MacDowell. The film is scheduled to premiere July 1.
