Malia Obama Turns 22: Who Is Barack Obama's Daughter Dating Now?

The oldest daughter of former United States President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama turns 22 on Saturday, July 4 and it conveniently coincides with what many refer to as America's birthday.

Although COVID-19 has put a bit of a damper on the things that people can do to celebrate the holidays, or in this case, a birthday, the Harvard University student likely has plenty of friends and family to help make the special day a memorable one. But does she have a special someone to chip in on the festivities as well? It seems so.

For about two years Malia has been dating fellow Harvard student Rory Farquharson.

So, who is Rory Farquharson?

Farquharson, who is British, was a part of the Class of 2020 at Harvard University, the same school where Malia is currently enrolled. His hobbies include golf and rugby, both of which he participated in while attending a private school in England before college.

During Summer 2019, rumors swirled that the couple had gotten engaged with sources telling Globe magazine that "Malia told friends they got engaged over the summer. She’s excited. She has the ring, but she’s too scared to wear it in public."

Then a few months later around the 2019 holiday season, Malia and Rory were rumored to have broken off their engagement.

"Malia’s devastated because she thought this was the man she was going to wed," an insider dished at the time. "Barack is relieved the guy is gone. He never liked Rory and told Michelle he was a bad influence."

However, both claims were debunked when they were spotted spending time together in London shortly after the New Year.

"They were keeping a low profile but looked really happy and relaxed together," an anonymous woman told MailOnline.

"What surprised me was that they were rambling around Islington, a pretty busy area, entirely incognito – few people recognized her as being the daughter to the previous American president," the unidentified individual added. "I spotted them walking near to the Regent's Canal. They were walking casually with another couple."
