Malia And Sasha Obama Bring Simple Style To Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon
Malia and Sasha Obama dressed in simple outfits for the annual turkey presentation in the White House Rose Garden Wednesday. U.S. president Barack Obama pardoned Honest, the turkey and his turkey alternate, Abe. It was the seventh year that the girls stood beside their dad as he granted reprieve to a turkey from the Thanksgiving table.
The older of the Obama daughters, Malia, 17, opted for a two-toned coat. She wore a striped turtleneck and forest green A-line mini beneath her coat which was also of matching color. The teen paired her look with black tights.
The teen, who will head to college next year, completed her look with black flat lace-up boots and white socks. Malia’s long hair was left loose over her shoulders and kept in side part.
Sasha, meanwhile, wore a denim miniskirt with a cream sweater. She paired her chic number with black tights. She teamed up her look in a pair of flat buckled boots with deep red socks. The 14-year-old accessorized with a pair of stud earrings and a black-framed pair of eyeglasses.
Both the sisters opted for complimentary looks. Malia and Sasha slayed the style department in contemporary fashion brands like American Apparel, Topshop and Alice + Olivia. Sasha’s stylish piece of accessory, the glasses is a rage currently with models from Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid sporting them.
The Obama daughters are known to borrow dresses from each other’s wardrobes. After returning from their family vacation in Martha’s Vineyard in August, Sasha was spotted in exactly the same Tony Burch dress that Malia wore during their visit to Italy with their mom, Michelle Obama.
The American tradition is 68 years old, according to the White House. “Time flies, even if turkeys don’t,” the president said.
Sasha and Malia cracked up at their father’s joke and said it was good. Obama thanked his daughters for joining him at the pardoning year after year. The doting father said that the girls did it to make him feel good, and not because they thought it was what he should be doing. “And, you know, as you get older, you appreciate when your kids just indulge you like this,” Obama said.
This year's birds are each 18 weeks old and weigh 40 pounds. The birds were raised in California, and their names were chosen from submissions from California schoolchildren. The turkeys will now join their predecessors at Morven Park's Turkey Hill in Leesburg, Virginia after the pardoning.
