Mama June Shannon’s Reality Show Canceled Or Renewed? What We Know So Far
KEY POINTS
- We TV has yet to renew “Mama June: From Not To Hot” even though its fifth season wrapped up last month
- Mama June has insisted on Instagram that she and her family are coming back for another season
- The controversial matriarch also teased that she and her daughters are working on a couple of big projects
Mama June Shannon and her family went through a lot of drama and dealt with a number of issues in the fifth season of their reality show. Can fans expect another installment from the family’s We TV series?
“Mama June: Road To Redemption” officially wrapped up on June 11 with an episode finally showing the verdict on the 41-year-old matriarch’s case. Although the show ended nicely with Mama June dodging jail time, there was still a bit of a cliffhanger there since her 45-year-old boyfriend Geno Doak still didn’t get a verdict on his case.
Fans who are eager to find out if Geno will be getting a prison sentence may need to rely on a follow-up season. However, We TV has yet to officially renew the show for Season 6, according to NextSeasonTV. This means it’s possible that Geno’s reality TV storyline might not be documented for the small screen should the network cancel the series.
But it’s important to note that Mama June herself might have already spoiled We TV’s decision on her family’s reality show. On the day of the Season 5 finale, the controversial TV star took to Instagram to announce that their fans should not worry because they are definitely coming back.
“Don’t worry. We will be back. Don’t worry [because] we’re not going anywhere,” she said in a video update before adding that she and her daughters also have “a couple big projects” in development and that she’s sharing more details about them “very, very soon.”
Many of her followers were convinced that their reality show will be picked up for a sixth installment after viewing Mama June’s Instagram update at the time.
“Well… looks like the show has been renewed. Good thing because my Friday nights are not complete without seeing you and your family,” one wrote.
“So glad that there will be another season! So proud of you for your hard work to continue to stay clean. I’m so happy for you that you have some new projects going on,” another commented.
Rumors that “Mama June: From Not To Hot” was going to get canceled swirled back in May when Mama June and her daughters, 21-year-old Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon and 15-year-old Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, did an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly.
During the interview, Mama June said that she was starting to feel like the time for them to bow out of reality TV could be drawing near. Pumpkin then chimed in saying she’s perfectly fine with them walking away from reality TV since she’s been wanting to live a normal life with her family.
