Mama June’s Daughter Pumpkin Addresses Family Drama After Becoming Alana’s Legal Guardian
Mama June Shannon’s daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon definitely stepped up this season when things got worse for the titular star of “Mama June: From Not To Hot” Season 3. And now she’s hoping for the best following the reality show’s shocking finale this week.
On Sunday, Pumpkin took to Twitter to express her thoughts about their family drama while also voicing her hope for things to simmer down. Her tweet also alluded to her carrying a lot of weight now that Mama June has left them to be with her boyfriend, Geno Doak.
“One day you’ll wake up and all of a sudden the weight of the last few weeks will be lifted off your shoulders. You can’t control when that day comes, all you can do is stay strong and trust that it is coming,” she wrote on the social networking platform.
In the finale of the WE tv series’ third season, it was revealed that Pumpkin has been granted temporary custody over her 13-year-old sister, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, in the wake of the mess involving Mama June and her ex-convict lover.
The final episode featured an intervention that Lauryn, Alana, sister Jessica, niece Amber and Mama June’s sister Joanne “Doe Doe” Shannon staged for the troubled matriarch. Their goal was to open Mama June’s eyes to the situation and lead her back to them and away from Geno.
At one point Alana poured her heart out when she admitted that she’s chosen to be with Pumpkin because she’s afraid to stay at Mama June’s house especially after Geno’s arrest earlier in the season. Mama June hesitated to discuss their issues on camera and she claimed that she’s no longer the same person she used to be.
After much prodding, Mama June caved in and agreed to enter an in-patient treatment facility in North Carolina. However, all of her family’s efforts went in vain since Mama June left the center less than a day after she checked herself in. Two day later, she and Geno were arrested over drug-related charges.
The arrest was the one that was highly publicilized two days before “From Not To Hot” Season 3 premiered in March. In the court documents obtained by TMZ, it was also revealed that aside from possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, authorities also intervened because Geno threatened to “kill” Mama June during an argument.
Mama June and Geno currently remain in Alabama while they are awaiting the hearing. And even though a judge has ordered Geno to stay away from Mama June, the two of them continue to stay together at a local hotel and casino.
“As of right now, my hopes for mama is honestly for her to get it together and her to leave Geno and just all in all get herself back to where she once was,” Pumpkin said in the finale.
