In a bizarre incident, a woman in Uganda revealed she was abandoned by her husband after she gave birth to twins for the fifth time.
Nalongo Gloria said her husband, Ssalongo, left her to fend for herself and her children because she had twins in each of her pregnancies. Gloria said her husband called the fifth set of twins "abnormal."
Gloria, while speaking to the Ugandan media channel NTV, recounted the horror of seeing her husband pack his belongings and leave the home. She said Ssalongo was not happy with the idea of the couple having so many twins, and said would take care of her only if she can give birth to one child.
"The man told me if I can't produce one child, he can't take care of me," Gloria told NTV.
It wasn't clear when the man abandoned his family.
The heartbroken woman revealed when she delivered the third set of twins, her husband asked her to go back to her home. "When I got pregnant with twins on the third day, the man said this is too much for him and asked me to go away."
But, Gloria added that she had lost contact with her family after coming to Kampala in search of work. "Where he was sending me. I didn't have their numbers anymore because I came to Kampala to work as a house girl."
Adding to her woes, Gloria's landlord had asked her to vacate the house after she failed to pay the rent during the lockdown. Despite this, Gloria said doesn't regret having such a big family.
"I don't regret giving birth to all these children. I know their father doesn't like them, and I can't drop them at his place. Despite the challenges, I will never abandon my kids. I know God will provide," she said. "I handed my things to the Lord. I have suffered but God knows best."
The woman said she didn't know her husband's whereabouts, and was stranded with the responsibility of taking care of her children single-handedly.
Gloria said a pair of her older children have run away and one has even died, leaving her with seven kids to feed, according to Face of Malawi.
