A Florida man who has been left permanently blind in an alleged hate crime accused his boyfriend's family of brutally assaulting him for "turning" their son gay, an arrest affidavit revealed.

The unidentified victim, a 31-year-old resident of Pompano Beach, said he was in a sexual relationship with 21-year-old Oleh Makarenko for almost nine months. Oleh's family members reportedly ambushed him after they found out about the relationship, according to the arrest affidavit released Wednesday, as reported by Advocate.

Cops arrested Oleh, his mother, Inna Makarenko, 44, and father Yevhen Makarenko, 43, last week for the alleged assault that happened on Aug. 6, 2021.

The suspects are accused of "severely beating a man based on his sexual orientation," and face multiple charges, including hate crime, attempted first-degree murder, battery during the burglary of a dwelling, and kidnapping.

Oleh's brother, 25-year-old Vladyslav Makarenko, was arrested and shifted to Broward County jail on April 11, in connection with the alleged assault. However, no charges have been filed against him.

The victim who sustained serious injuries in the attack was found lying on the floor soaked in blood when an officer responded to his building for an unrelated event. The man had reportedly lost his memory in the attack and decided to press charges six months later when he regained his memory.

The victim said Oleh's parents found out that their son was homosexual in July 2021. "His [Oleh's] father was now treating him poorly and not accepting him, and his mother was forcing him to marry a woman," the victim said, Miami CBS Local reported.

A few weeks later, the victim said he sensed some trouble was brewing when Oleh asked for his address even though he had often stayed at his place and had his own key. The next day, when the victim came to open the gate, he saw Oleh with his family members; the victim had recognized them from photos. Oleh, who appeared to be nervous shouted "Go inside!" while the suspects allegedly chased the victim. One of them grabbed an unknown object and struck the victim in the face while Oleh and Inna watched him getting beaten, the victim said.
