A 23-year-old man in India's Madhya Pradesh state was allegedly killed by his drunk friend Monday over a dispute regarding who would pay for their alcohol.
The Nazirabad man, identified as Golu Ahirwar, was allegedly hacked to death with an ax by his 32-year-old friend, Radheshyam Mehar, after the two had an argument at a country liquor store, newspaper The Times of India reported.
Mehar, who lived in the village of Sindhora like Ahirwar, was allegedly drunk when he hit his friend twice with the weapon, according to the outlet. The alleged attack left Ahirwar with severe injuries on his head and neck, causing him to die on the spot.
Mehar allegedly fled following the killing, as per The Times of India. Authorities were informed of the incident by a nearby fruit seller, and a murder case was registered.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Mehar, police said.
A similar incident had occurred three months ago in Salt Lake County, Utah, when two friends who were drinking alcohol had an argument that resulted in one of the men being shot and killed by the other.
On March 23, officers of the West Valley City Police Department responded to a shooting at a motorhome located along Claybourne Avenue.
According to police, 58-year-old Glen Hogue claimed that he shot and killed his 60-year-old friend, Troy Frampton, after the two had an argument in his motorhome.
Hogue told police that they had been drinking alcohol and that their argument allegedly turned physical. Frampton allegedly attacked Hogue, which prompted the latter to shoot the former in self-defense. Frampton died on the scene.
Police investigated through the night and said the evidence did not support Hogue's claims of self-defense. He was arrested and booked into jail following Frampton's death. He faced homicide-related charges over the incident.
