A man died after mistakenly drinking acid instead of water while being engrossed in a mobile game. The incident took place in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

The man, identified as 20-year-old Saurabh Yadav, was traveling on a train with his friend, Santosh Sharma, when the former decided to play PUBG to while away the time. An hour after the commencement of the journey, Yadav searched for a water bottle in his friend’s bag. He allegedly took out a bottle of acid from the bag and drank it, mistaking it for water. His friend, who is into jewelry business, was carrying the acid with him to polish the ornaments.

Recalling the incident, Sharma said his friend was playing the mobile game with his headphone plugged into his hear when he “mistakenly took out the chemical bottle instead of water from my backpack and drank it. With the first sip, he realized his mistake as he felt a burning sensation in his throat. He immediately called me for help.”

The railway doctor checked the man at the next station and declared him dead. Meanwhile, the parents of the man filed a police complaint against Sharma claiming that he deliberately gave their son the acid. Following the complaint, Sharma was taken into custody and charged with culpable homicide.
