A couple in India has been arrested on charges of murder for allegedly killing the man's 7-month-old daughter from his first marriage and burying her body to conceal his crime.

The man allegedly committed the crime after he got irritated over the taunts of his second wife for failing to soothe the crying infant, reports said.

The incident that happened in Lucknow, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, came to light after the infant's mother, identified as Pramilla, filed a complaint about her missing daughter, The Times of India reported Thursday.

Pramilla was living separately at her parent's house for the past few months due to differences with her husband Sanjay Rawat, police said. Meanwhile, Rawat got married to another woman, Meena, around 15 days back and took his two daughters from Pramilla's house on July 21.

When Pramilla came looking for the children, she could not find the younger one and reported it to the police. The neighbors reportedly told her that the child died two days ago and her body was buried in the nearby ground.

Based on Pramilla's complaint that the infant was murdered by Rawat and Meena, police arrested the couple and exhumed the child's body Wednesday, the news outlet Hindustan Times reported.

An autopsy report later revealed that the child had an antemortem head injury and a fracture on the left hand.

During interrogation, Rawat confessed to the crime, police said. In addition to the murder charges, both Rawat and Meena face charges for concealment of the crime.

Earlier this month, a 3-year-old child in India who was buried alive in a graveyard allegedly by her mother and maternal grandmother was rescued by the villagers. The unidentified girl from Saran district in the eastern Indian state of Bihar was rescued after the villagers heard her screaming from a graveyard. The villagers who searched the scene found the girl buried in the graveyard with her mouth stuffed with clay. The child was taken to a primary health center and police started an investigation.
