Man Allegedly Paid Underage Boys Drugs, Cash To Cover Up Years Of Sexual Abuse

A 65-year-old man in Douglas County, Nebraska was arrested this week for allegedly sexually abusing at least three underage boys over several years.

Steven Danon has been charged with 12 felonies relating to sexual assaults of children, local newspaper the Omaha World-Herald reported. He was booked Wednesday into the Douglas County Jail.

Danon's charges were broken down into six counts of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of sexual assault of a child and three counts of third-degree sexual assault on a child in connection to incidents that occurred from September 2003 to April 2009, according to a copy of the charges obtained by KMTV.

The Omaha Police Department said Danon sexually assaulted at least three victims over the span of several years, WOWT has learned. Police said that they believe there could be more victims.

Some of the victims were allegedly middle school friends with Danon's son, as per the Omaha World-Herald.

Danon, a safety director at an insurance company, allegedy paid the boys with drugs and money to keep them quiet about the acts of abuse.

Authorities had started investigating Danon in September 2019 when a then-26-year-old man approached Omaha police and claimed his drug addiction may have been a result of his childhood sexual abuse from Danon. The man reportedly died in May 2020 due to a drug overdose, according to an affidavit.

The document indicated that Danon — who was a family friend — masturbated and performed oral sex on the man from when he was 11 years old all the way to his adulthood.

The man claimed he was friends with Danon's son and spent nights and weekends at their home in Omaha, where the alleged abuse occurred.

Police in August of last year contacted a 27-year-old man they identified as a second potential victim, who claimed that Danon had started sexually assaulting him when he was 11 or 12 years old. Danon allegedly paid him "in exchange for being able to masturbate him and perform oral sex on him," the affidavit stated.

The second man also said that Danon paid him in cash, marijuana and Xanax so he would remain quiet about the alleged abuse, which he said continued through high school.

A third alleged victim also started talking to Omaha police in August 2020 about the investigation into Danon's allegations.

According to the alleged third victim, Danon masturbated and performed oral sex on him in middle school. He also told police that the two other boys were Danon's "main victims," and that the alleged acts of abuse stopped when he was in high school.

Just like the second man, the third man also said that Danon gave the boys money and drugs. He claimed he could request anything from Danon and "get what he wanted," according to the affidavit.
