A Florida man was held in connection with his girlfriend’s murder in St. Petersburg on Saturday after her body was found in the trunk of a car.

Warren Brown, 57, was charged with second-degree murder and held without bail.

The body of Sophie Solis, 43, was first spotted by friends who visited the couple's shared home in Organdy Drive, St. Petersburg to check on her after she disappeared on Wednesday. The next day, her friends found their house "in disarray", said arrest reports. Solis' body was found in Brown's Cadillac.

Police also found a blood-stained robe with "Warren" monogrammed on it; photos of the couple; a leather jacket with "blood, hair and flesh on it" in the trunk, reported Tampa Bay Times. There was blood splattered on the ceiling of two rooms.

Warren later told the police that he had stabbed Solis and stashed her body in the trunk.

"We know that she had been stabbed. There's still more work to be done as to all the medical information, but it was clearly homicide," Yolanda Fernandez, a spokesperson with the St. Petersburg Police Department, said.

The couple shared a history of domestic violence. Police had arrested Brown on Nov. 9 after he allegedly cut Solis' arms with a knife. He bailed out of jail and was ordered by the court not to contact Solis. Brown visited Solis' home shortly after and the latter called the police on him. Solis later declined to press charges against him and a week later she was killed.
