A Florida man has been charged with battery Sunday after he attacked his wife during an argument. Deputies from Manatee County, Florida were called to a home in Parrish around 2 p.m. EST to attend to a domestic incident.

Deputies were informed that Victor Fosser, a 49-year-old attacked his wife Pamela Ellen Fosser, 49 after an argument. According to Pamela’s statement, she was upset about having to force her son to move out of their house, thus resulting in an argument, after which she tried to seek comfort with her husband. However, Fosser went to Taco Bell and picked up lunch. When he returned with lunch, he tried to give the burrito to his wife, who was still upset.

The deputies report said, “Fosser dangled the burrito in front of her face and made fun of her for being upset. The woman grabbed the burrito and threw it on the floor in anger.” Fosser then picked the rest of the burritos up and smashed them in his wife’s face causing some to go up her nose.

Fosser was arrested and taken to the county jail. He was charged with battery and released Monday. Victor and Pamela have been married for over two years and she told the police that while she did love him, they have been in to counseling since “they do not know how to argue as a married couple.”

According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, on an average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. This adds to more than 10 million men and women. Further, more than 80 percent of all the domestic violence victims are women. The National Domestic Violence Hotline website characterizes domestic violence into multiple categories including general, sexual, stalking and financial. They also have a list of signs of an abusive relationship. This list includes things like the victim’s partner being extremely jealous of their friends and the time spent away, controlling behavior, destruction of property and threats to kill or hurt the person and their pets.

The website also says that a person may be a victim of abuse if their partner hurts them in any way, including punching, slapping, biting or choking; forbidding the person from eating or sleeping or preventing them for calling for help or calling the police.

The Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence estimated that almost 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner and on an average, more than three women a day are murdered by their husbands in the United States alone. In 2015 alone, there were 107,666 acts of domestic violence reported to law enforcement in Florida alone. Many such incidents also go unreported for the fear of the partner. Their hotline received more than 850 calls in day in 2015-16.

Both the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the National Domestic Violence Hotline have asked victims to call them on their hotlines if they see any of the behavior in either their partners or someone they know.
