Man Barges Into Estranged Wife's House, Sets Her Brother's Young Children On Fire
A 28-year-old man in India allegedly barged into his estranged wife's house and set her brother's young children on fire. The woman's elderly grandparents reportedly suffered burns while trying to save the children.
At least four people, including two kids, suffered severe burn injuries after the suspect, identified only by his surname Rinku, poured petrol on the children and set them ablaze Tuesday, Times Now News reported.
Rinku, hailing from Gurugram, a satellite city of India's capital New Delhi, was married to the woman for eight years. They got separated from her recently after she filed a domestic violence case against him. Rinku reportedly held a grudge against his wife for filing the complaint and his brother-in-law for helping her in the case.
"The condition of two minor children is critical. It is suspected that the accused held enmity with his wife's brother since he was supporting her in the court case," police said, The Indian Express reported.
Rinku reportedly barged into the woman's house, which she shared with her grandparents and brother, carrying a can of petrol Tuesday evening. He then doused his brother-in-law's young children – a nine-month-old girl and a seven-year-old boy sleeping on a sofa – in petrol before setting them ablaze.
The grandparents and a relative of the children got burn injuries while trying to rescue the kids. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Rinku, who suffered burn injuries and fell unconscious after the incident, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital, police said.
They will register a case against the suspect after recording the victims' statements.
Last month, a 29-year-old man in the southern Indian state of Telangana allegedly set his in-laws on fire after his estranged wife left him. The suspect, identified as Sai Krishna, barged into his in-laws' apartment and doused the couple with gasoline before setting them ablaze. The victims, identified as 54-year-old T Sagar Rao and his 50-year-old wife Rama, suffered severe burn injuries. The suspect's wife had previously filed a case against him on charges of domestic harassment. Police have registered a new case against the suspect on charges of attempted murder.
