Man Bites 10-Month-Old Daughter As Baby Wouldn't Sleep

A 31-year-old man from Lake Villa Township, Illinois, was arrested for allegedly biting his 10-month-old daughter because she wouldn’t go to sleep. Police said that the man, identified as Daniel K. Martin, was being held on a $50,000 bail.

The incident reportedly took place at a home in the 38800 block of North Cedar Crest Drive. Martin was responsible “for biting the child out of anger because the baby would not fall asleep,” Sgt. Christopher Covelli said in a statement released by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified Monday by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services regarding possible child abuse at a home. Sheriff’s detectives conducted an investigation and found that the baby was abused by the father. Authorities met with the family member and evaluated the 10-month-old girl, who had bite marks and bruises, Chicago Tribune reported.

“The child had what appeared to be bite marks and bruises on her face and arms,” according to Covelli.

Martin was charged with aggravated battery to a child, two counts of domestic battery and remained in Lake County jail Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in Lake County Circuit Court on March 18, according to the release.

Last month, a Florida man was charged after he admitted to critically injuring a newborn baby who was under his care. Aaron James Bordelon, 29, said he attacked the 16-day-old child when the baby woke him up shortly after a recent feeding. Police said Bordelon was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect.

The baby was in critical condition after suffering skull fractures and severe traumatic brain injury.
