A 62-year-old Israeli man was indicted Monday on charges of raping a minor girl for a year with her mother's consent.

The man provided financial support to the 12-year-old's mother in return, Haaretz reported.

The indictment filed by state prosecutors said the mother, who has not been named, allowed the defendant to rape her daughter since she was 11. In exchange, she received financial help to pay her bills and buy appliances. The defendant also gave the minor large amounts of money, bought her gifts and went shopping with her.

An investigation into the incident also reportedly revealed that the man used to call the victim dozens of times a day, and controlled her movements.

“The defendant would call the minor dozens of times a day, limited her movements, forbade her to go out with friends, or leave the home at certain hours, and also forbade her from dressing in a manner displeasing to him," the prosecution stated, adding, "after the minor rejected these prohibitions, the defendant threatened to stop supporting her financially and also assaulted her.”

The prosecution said the minor girl reported the acts to her mother, who ignored the matter. She even “helped deepen the defendant’s control of her daughter’s life.”

The man, who has not been identified, has been charged with human trafficking, rape with aggravating circumstances, sodomy, sexual assault and assault of a minor. The mother has been charged with human trafficking, and serving as an accomplice to rape and sodomy, according to YNet.

In August 2020, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped at a hotel in the southern resort town of Eilat. Several people were arrested in connection to the case in the following months. The men were accused of raping the teenager while she was intoxicated. More than a dozen people were charged in connection to the rape case. The incident had shocked the country, and also spurred calls for reforms, as testimony indicated that a large group of men had lined up outside the intoxicated girl’s hotel room, waiting their turn to rape her.
