A man accused of robbing a Texas bank Friday claims he needed the money to pay for his upcoming wedding.

Citizens State Bank in Groveton, Texas, was robbed by an unidentified man caught on camera and two hours later, a man identified as Heath Bumpous turned himself into the Trinity County Sheriff’s office claiming responsibility.

Bumpous also reportedly admitted he committed the robbery to help pay for his wedding taking place on Saturday.

“He basically stated that he was getting married tomorrow so he didn’t have enough money for a wedding ring that he wanted to buy and he needed to pay for the wedding venue,” Sheriff Woody Wallace told KLTV an ABC-affiliate in Longview.

Bumpous allegedly told officers that he told the teller he was armed and wanted the bank’s money. He then left the bank and drove off, reportedly tossing his clothes out of his car as he fled the scene.

Police claimed to have recovered the clothes shortly after the robbery.

Shortly after, the Trinity County Sheriff's Office posted security footage of the alleged robber to its Facebook page, which was later reportedly seen by Bumpous’ fiancée. She recognized him from the footage and went to confront him about the robbery. He then claims she told him to turn himself over to police, which he later did.

“He is now in custody,” Wallace said. “He has been charged with aggravated robbery. The district attorney has accepted the charges. It will go to a grand jury and he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

Most of the money stolen has also reportedly been recovered.
