In a bizarre incident, a teenager claimed to be a 500-year-old vampire and said he had a "need-to-feed" on blood.

Lyle Bensley, the 19-year-old 'vampire' is being held at Galveston County Jail on a charge of burglary with intent to commit assault.

Bensley apparently broke into an apartment and bit an unnamed woman on the neck, who broke free and sped away, taking shelter in a neighbor's car, on Saturday, an ABCNews report said.

By the time police arrived at the scene, Bensley was seen wearing boxer shorts, hissing and growling in the parking lot.

He kept yelling all the while that he "didn't want to have to feed on humans," Capt. Jeff Heyse of the Galveston County Police Department told ABCNews.com.

"I've dealt with some really strange people. You know, guys who think they're Jesus and that. But I've never seen anything like this," Heyse said.

According to the police officials, Bensley even warned guards to restrain him for their own protection, gnashing his teeth. Though it was unclear if Bensley was under the influence of drugs or any intoxication during the attack, he would go through a psychological examination.

Even if Bensley's alleged claim to be a vampire is psychological problem, can the popular media be blamed for it? The recent Twilight Saga and the HBO series True Blood have a vampire theme, and the show as well as the movie has a lot of young followers.

That could be, according to some experts, an inspiration or lead for some mental patients.

Bensley was charged with burglary with intent to commit assault. His bond is set at $40,000, the report said.
