Man Claims He Killed Wife At Her Own Request, Left Body In Room For Days
A man who left his wife's body at home for days before reporting her death claimed he murdered his wife at her own request inside their Utah home.
Dave Meyer, 69, was arrested in Roy after he said he killed his wife because she had been "asking him to kill her for a while now due to the amount of pain she has been in," officials said.
The Roy City Police Department arrived at Meyer's address Saturday and found his deceased wife shot in the head in one of the bedrooms, according to ABC4 Utah. Meyer said he was not sure of when the incident occurred, but detectives suspect the victim was shot dead on Jan. 17, four days before the man finally reported her death.
The victim's identity was not immediately released.
While speaking to officials, Meyer said his wife was in a car accident and had been suffering back pain for about 11 years due to nerve damage. He also said his wife had repeatedly requested him to kill her so she would no longer be in pain.
Meyer said he was rubbing his wife's back when he saw his 9mm pistol on the dresser beside his bed on the night of her death, according to KUTV.
"Dave described rubbing his wife's back with his left hand and holding the pistol in his right hand," deputies said.
Meyer allegedly shot his wife in her temple and "left her body to be in the room for several days before reporting the incident," officials added.
The accused husband also told investigators that he and his wife used to smoke marijuana every night for the past decade. However, neither Meyer nor the deceased woman had a medical marijuana card. Officials noted that Meyer is not legally allowed to own a weapon because of his marijuana usage.
After reporting his wife's death four days late, Meyer was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail on Saturday. He was charged with murder, obstruction of justice for failing to report the incident sooner and two counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
