In a shocking incident, a man jumped to his death from the fifth floor of an apartment to avoid getting caught by his lover's husband. Police said the victim was in a live-in relationship with the woman for the last few months.

The incident happened in the Indian city of Jaipur on Monday evening, reported NDTV. The 29-year-old victim has been identified as Mohsin Azam, a native of Nainital.

Police said Wednesday that Mohsin and the woman met in the state of Uttar Pradesh and fell in love. They decided to elope to Jaipur, Rajasthan, a few months ago. The woman took her young daughter along with them.

Since then, the couple had been living together in rented apartments all over the city. However, the woman's husband had been looking for her. Finally, the husband managed to trace the couple to Jaipur, the report said.

On Monday evening, the man arrived at their apartment. Mohsin, who was standing on the fifth floor, saw the man approaching. He panicked and jumped from the balcony of the house. He was immediately ferried to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries Tuesday.

Mohsin's relatives were alerted, and the body was taken to autopsy only after their arrival, reported The Times Of India. The couple had been living in a nearby locality and only moved into the current place a few days ago.

Local police officer Balveer Singh told the news outlet that police have filed an inquest report, and the case is being handled as a suicide.

Meanwhile, reports said the woman and her husband were missing following Mohsin's death. A manhunt has begun, officers said.

A similar incident was reported recently wherein a man was arrested after he allegedly set his wife's lover on fire on suspicion of infidelity. The 31-year-old victim, Arvind Ahirwar of Bhopal, reportedly had an affair with the accused's wife for a few years before her marriage. The affair continued even after the marriage and the accused came to know about their frequent meetings. He planned revenge and lured Arvind into a deserted place before setting him on fire.
