A 25-year-old man in the Indian state of Gujarat allegedly died over two months ago after he used an epoxy adhesive to cover his private parts during sex instead of a condom.
Surveillance footage showed the man, identified as Fatehwadi resident Salman Mirza, and his unnamed girlfriend on June 22 entering a hotel in Ahmedabad's Juhapura neighborhood, where the two decided to have sex, newspaper The Times of India reported, citing a police officer from the city.
"Since they did not have any protection, they decided to apply the adhesive on his private parts to ensure that [the woman] does not get pregnant," a senior Ahmedabad police officer said.
"They were carrying the adhesive as they occasionally used it with whitener to inhale the mixture for a kick," the officer added.
Acquaintances claimed Mirza and his former fiancée were addicted to drugs and were intoxicated when they decided to use the adhesive instead of a condom, a report by Indian media outlet News18 said.
The adhesive, however, allegedly worsened Mirza's health condition, and he was found lying unconscious in some shrubs near the Amber Tower apartment the next day by an acquaintance, who was identified as Firoz Shaikh.
Mirza was then brought home, but his condition further deteriorated and he was taken to Sola Civil Hospital, where he died.
"They used the adhesive to avoid pregnancy. Unfortunately, the adhesive damaged Salman’s organs, and he died due to multiple organ failure," a police officer investigating the case was quoted as saying.
Mirza's friends reportedly believed that he might have lost consciousness over his use of a drug that affected his health and that the adhesive added to the complications that led to his death.
Police filed a complaint of accidental death and began an investigation following the incident after one of Mirza's relatives approached Vejalpur police on June 25.
"The viscera samples of the deceased have been sent for forensic examination. We are waiting for the report to arrive,” deputy commissioner of police Premsukh Delu said, as per The Times of India.
Mirza was the "only earning member" of his family, which comprised his elderly parents and two sisters, according to the outlet. His family later claimed the woman who accompanied Mirza to the hotel was the one who applied the epoxy to his private parts.
