Man Drunk-Dials Wife And Pretends Being Kidnapped, Causing Massive Search Operation
A drunk man’s phone call to his wife about him being kidnapped triggered a search operation involving over 600 cops. However, it was later revealed his claims were false.
The incident took place in Nagpur, a city in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. The man, identified as 26-year-old Gajendra Kohre, called his wife Tuesday night under the influence of alcohol, and told her he was being kidnapped and taken to an undisclosed location by a group of men. He then switched off his phone.
"He told her that he met with a road accident and a group of people blamed him for the mishap. He told her that the group was taking him to an unidentified location in a large vehicle and trying to kill him. Thereafter, he switched off his mobile phone," a police official said, NDTV reported.
The wife attempted to contact him, but after several failed attempts, she reached out to the police and informed them about her husband’s phone call. Sensing the gravity of the matter, the cops immediately contacted the senior police officials, who launched a search operation for the 26-year-old.
"The police then registered a case of kidnapping and tried to trace the last location of his mobile phone. More than 600 police personnel led by three DCP-rank officials were involved in the search operation for the entire night. But they failed to get any clue about him," the official said.
The following morning, the man called his friend and informed him he had passed out in some place after consuming too much alcohol, and that he was on his way back home. The friend immediately contacted Kohre’s wife, who in turn informed the police. Two hours later, the man returned home, India Today reported.
An investigation revealed the man had made a call under the influence of alcohol, and that all the claims were false. It wasn't clear if the man was taken into custody or charged for the false claims.
