A man along with his pet dog and five camels were rescued after falling down a steep slope while they were on a walk. The incident took place in Victoria, Australia, on Sunday (May 3).

The man, identified as 38-year-old John Elliott, was walking near Ferguson Track in Jamieson when his camels lost their footing. This caused them to fall down the steep, dragging Elliott and his dog with them as the animals were all tied together.

He was able to activate his emergency radio beacon, which was reportedly registered to a server in the United States, about 9,300 miles away. The police then alerted the authorities in Canberra, following which, the Victorian Police were notified and they responded to the emergency.

"Basically - chap was out with his camels. One fell, dragged some others, and that's led to the whole ship going down," Country Fire Authority district commander Paul Horton told BBC.

"Police sent a helicopter to investigate... they just assumed it was going to be one person, perhaps a winch rescue, and everyone would be fine. Of course they get on scene and there's definitely more than one person involved,” he added.

Elliott, along with all five of his camels and his pet dog, were successfully lifted to safety.

According to authorities, backup responders were called to the scene to help lift the animals back onto the track. A veterinarian was also on standby.

The rescuers attempted to use a sling to lift one of the camels which appeared to have been injured. However, according to Horton, the animal was "able to scramble its way back up" and reunite with the others.

"And they were all safely walked back to a safe place to stay last night. Long story short - we're just glad it ended well," he said.

The rescue lasted nearly four hours. However, no serious injuries were reported during the incident. The case was still under investigation as the police were trying to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fall.
