Man Fatally Shoots 2, Walks Into Police Station Covered In Blood
A man who shot dead two people walked into a police station in Missouri, covered in blood on Thursday.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder on Friday. He was also charged with armed criminal action, unlawful use of firearm, and unlawful possession of firearm. The 27-year-old man, identified as Torry Andre Upchurch, allegedly told people after surrendering that “I know I committed two murders”.
The suspect first shot 17-year-old Earle Key Jr, a resident of Jefferson City. Local reports suggested that the suspect had approached Key’s apartment from the front and knocked. It was alleged that Upchurch had shot Key in the face with a 9mm handgun as he opened the door. The police reached the scene Thursday evening. A witness reportedly told the police about seeing a person running away but the authorities were not able to locate him.
The police responded to another shooting incident later in the evening at about 8.45 p.m. local time (9.45 p.m EST) in the same neighborhood. The authorities found 33-year-old Shantae Hill-Cook fatally shot with multiple bullet wounds.
Witnesses later revealed that Upchurch and Hill-Cook were involved in a relationship for the past few months. One of the witnesses said the suspect was upset with Hill-Cook as she helped the witness with her baby and belongings. The man reportedly asked Hill-Cook to “stay in the car” before he got out and shot the woman multiple times. The suspect then proceeded to escape in the car before the officers arrived.
