An Oregon man was arrested Thursday for repeatedly raping an infant girl and recording the abuse.

Edd Lahar, 30, sexually assaulted the infant several times from June 2018 to as recently as January. He also had recordings of the acts.

Officers started investigating the incident Wednesday after getting a tip that the accused had child pornography in his cell phone. They obtained a warrant to search his house and found evidence of sexual abuse, Fox News reported.

He was arrested the next day on charges including first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree sexual abuse. He was also charged for “using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct,” Oregon Live reported.

According to the court documents, the abuse started when the victim was less than two months old and continued until she was about nine months old. Though Lahar initially told officers the images were accidentally taken, police found child pornography on his computer server that the user deleted in order to hide his actions.

The condition of the girl remained unknown. The relationship between Lahar and the infant was also not known. He pleaded not guilty in a Benton County Circuit Court on Friday and his bail was set at $10 million.

Benton County District Attorney John Haroldson said Lahar could face life imprisonment for abusing the infant.

"As a prosecutor, one of our top priorities is to protect our most vulnerable citizens. It's hard to imagine anyone more vulnerable than an infant,” Haroldson said, ABC-affiliated television station KEZI reported.

During the hearing, he was ordered not to have any contact with the girl or her mother. He was also prohibited from using the internet or any recording devices. He is set to appear in court again on Feb.5.

In a similar incident in January, a man in Essex, England, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for sexually assaulting three children and also filming himself raping an 18-month-old baby. Joshua Gould had over 1,000 photos of children being abused. He also had extreme pornographic images in his external hard drive. Investigation revealed the videos also had some live footages of him abusing children including an 18-month-old. During police questioning, he named the baby he sexually assaulted, however, refused to answer any more questions. This resulted in the child’s parents being forced to look at the images to identify.

Judge Samantha Leigh said, “Parents had to identify their children from the photographs, which of course makes it worse in their mind. They have now seen a very small part of what you did to their daughters. This has been going on for a number of years, and you said you were an opportunist, but that’s not what I have [gathered] from some of the footage and from the span of time.”
