An Australian man’s early morning jog led to a bizarre discovery that has left numerous netizens puzzled from trying to identify the creature.

Harry Hayes, who lives in Syndey, said he crossed paths with the creature lying on the road while jogging through Marrickville on Monday. Hayes stopped when he caught sight of the strange-looking creature and eventually came back to the spot to capture it on camera.

"My gut says it's some kind of embryo but with Covid, World War III, and the floods (going on right now) this could very well be an alien," Hayes told LADbible Australia as speculations continue over what the little being might be.

The publication contacted the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales in a bid to have the creature identified. However, it was reported that there are currently no conclusive answers.

Parts of Australia have received heavy rainfall in the past few days; however, Hayes reportedly spotted the four-centimeter-sized creature in an area that was not a flood zone.

When Hayes shared his find on Instagram, he asked his followers if they could identify the mysterious creature.

“I think it’s a frog,” one commenter said, while another quipped, “I feel like this is just a bit of glue in an unfortunate shape.”

Hayes told Yahoo News Australia that the video piqued the interest of quite a few people, some of whom even suggested it could be an alien or speculated whether a UFO was involved.

“I really enjoyed the questions asking how close I am to the ocean,” he told the outlet and clarified that he was not living near the sea.

Some suggested it could be an animal’s organ or even a clam or snail without its shell. “Someone made a connection to ScoMo at Engadine Maccas which was also pretty graphic,” Hayes told the outlet.

In light of all the history-making events that have recently taken place, including “Covid/WW3 and the floods,” Hayes said he is keeping an open mind about what the mysterious creature could be.

“I'm very much the investigator and don't have any concrete theories,” he told the publication. “I think having an open mind to the potential of extraterrestrials is most important.”

One biologist on Instagram reportedly said she sent the photo to “dozens” of peers and found that none of them could come to a consensus. “My money is on possum/glider embryo," she wrote, according to Yahoo News Australia.

Hayes is happy to see that his find is a welcome distraction for some people and told the publication: “I'm just glad people have something somewhat positive to focus on during these crazy times. I am hoping for a quick recovery for all those impacted by the floods in the last few days, it's been horrible to witness.”
