A man rode his bike for almost seven miles with a venomous snake in his helmet. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Kerala on Thursday.

The man, identified as K.A.Ranjith, was heading to the school where he worked as a teacher, when he saw the reptile’s tail sticking out of the helmet. The man, who was initially shocked, calmly took the reptile, that was in a quashed state, out from the helmet liner. The dead reptile, a common krait, and the helmet were set ablaze.

According to the local reports, Ranjith had parked his bike at the porch of his home the previous night and left the helmet on the vehicle. It was suspected that the reptile slipped into the helmet from the nearby pond. The snake remained hidden inside the helmet for almost seven miles before the man saw it.

Recalling the incident, Ranjith said, “I think the snake might have got into the helmet from the pond near my house. The snake was inside my helmet for a long time but I didn’t feel anything unusual while wearing it.”

Ranjith rushed to a nearby hospital following the incident. Tests concluded that he wasn’t bitten by the snake.
