Man With History Of Domestic Violence Stabbed Wife To Death, Arrested
A man was arrested for fatally stabbing his wife despite having a domestic violence notice issued against him. The incident took place in Sydney on Wednesday (May 20).
The accused, identified as 31-year-old Baltej Singh Lailna, stabbed his wife to death in their home located at Quakers Hill, western Sydney, on Wednesday morning.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Kamaljeet Sidhu, had a knife wound and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The victim's brother contacted emergency services after he found her with a knife wound to the throat.
"Police attended immediately, located the brother outside and had a conversation. They entered into the unit and found the accused located in the hallway, immediately outside of the bedroom, with a female deceased on the floor," said Superintendent Jennifer Scholz on Thursday.
Detectives mentioned that the couple visited Quakers Hill police station on April 24 and the woman made a complaint against the assailant. According to the police, she feared that her life was in danger, after which, an apprehended domestic violence order was issued against her husband.
“There was a standard order in regards to not assaulting [and] molesting. There was no exclusion order in regards to the location or the home environment. They were residing together in the same bedroom,” Scholz added.
Following the incident, Lailna was apprehended and taken to Blacktown Hospital where he received treatment for the laceration wounds on his hands. He was then taken into custody at Riverstone Police Station and charged with murder. His bail was formally refused.
The accused attended his trials via video conference before Parramatta local court. Lailna’s next court appearance was scheduled at Penrith local court on July 17.
"From our investigation, it will be alleged that the husband has actually, obviously, assaulted and murdered his wife," said Scholz.
No further details about the incident were available as the case was still under investigation.
In a similar incident from earlier this month, a man was arrested in California for stabbing his pregnant wife multiple times and killing their one-year-old daughter by throwing her off a cliff after a car accident. The man also stabbed a bystander who had tried to save the baby. The accused, identified as 49-year-old Adam Slater, was injured due to the collision and was hospitalized.
