Man Jailed For Fatally Running Over Woman After Refusing To Pay For Oral Sex
A man in England has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for running over and killing a woman after refusing to pay for oral sex.
The victim, 38-year-old Stella Frew, entered a van driven by the accused, identified as 27-year-old James Martin, and offered him oral sex on July 24, 2020. The two got into an argument when the man felt $67 was too much. The woman then exited the van and the accused immediately accelerated the vehicle away, reported Latin Times.
Witnesses saw the woman holding on to the van's side by the passenger door. The man then zigzagged through parked cars, resulting in the woman losing grip and going under the rear wheels of the van. The accused quickly fled the scene without calling for help, according to SW Londoner.
Passersby found the woman lying on the road and called the medics, who arrived at the scene and pronounced her dead.
Following the incident, authorities worked to trace the vehicle and its owner. They later found that both Martin and Frew had DNA matches at the location where the van had last been spotted.
"She did not deserve to die in the circumstances that she did," Judge Richard Marks told Martin during sentencing Tuesday as per My London. "It is clear from the evidence that she got dragged along the road, coming into contact with a parked vehicle. Your van drove over her body causing her fatal injuries. She had a tire mark vertically up her back from her pelvis to her neck. Your behavior in the course of this incident and in particular at and towards the end of the incident was cheap, cynical and disdainful."
Stella's two grownup daughters also spoke during the trial. They talked about their mother's troubled life, noting she had suffered abuse at the hands of men.
"Stella was a vulnerable young woman exploited by many due to her kindness, especially by men," Frankie Cottrell said. "It pains us that Stella's life has been ended by the actions of a male too. She was somebody, she had a family who love her dearly. Mr. Martin may have thought my mom was worthless but to us she was everything."
