Man Kidnaps, Sexually Assaults Pregnant Woman For Weeks After Threatening To Rip Throat: Cops
A Michigan man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a pregnant woman for three weeks. The 36-year-old man held the woman captive after threatening to bite her with his filed teeth and rip out her throat, police said.
Michael Barajas was arrested after the unidentified 20-year-old woman shared her ordeal with the staff after she was taken to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for a medical emergency related to her pregnancy on Dec. 8., Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said in a video message posted on social media Thursday.
Barajas took the woman, who was without a home at the time, to his house promising her shelter. She was reportedly locked inside a room and tied to a bed. He then repeatedly sexually abused, police said.
"This guy used the opportunity to not only sexual assault but have people come over and traffic her as she was tied forcibly to the bed while they assaulted her," Swanson said. "Barajas threatened that if she didn't do everything that he told her to do, he would bite her neck and rip out her throat."
The victim was held in a locked room with nailed windows. She tried to escape from captivity twice. However, during both attempts, Barajas and the other suspects chased her down and fired shots at her before dragging her back to the room, police said.
Based on the information received from the victim, Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team, or GHOST, raided the house and arrested the suspect, the Detroit News reported.
Barajas was charged with seven felony counts, including kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, human trafficking and assault with a dangerous weapon, according to court records.
"This guy is a monster. If you look at the teeth that are filed down and the threats of ripping out a throat, I will say no more," Swanson said. Meanwhile, the woman who has been freed is now "being well cared for," he added.
