A man in India allegedly leaked a minor girl's rape video from two years ago on social media to stop her from marrying someone else.
The girl, from the state of Bihar, was raped by five men during a festival at a village in Gopalganj. She was in a relationship with Abhishek Sharma, and was barely 16 at the time of the crime, Gopalganj district police officer Anand Kumar told The Times of India.
“The four other accused had caught Abhishek with the girl in an objectionable position and gang-raped her taking advantage of the situation. The victim had not approached the police due to various reasons,” Kumar told The Times of India.
The girl's ex-boyfriend, Abhishek, then blackmailed her with the video, and pressured her to marry him when he heard she was planning to wed someone else soon. The girl refused to relent to his demands, following which Abhishek allegedly leaked the video to get her wedding canceled.
“Infuriated after coming to know about her viral video, the victim went to Abhishek’s house and told him that she was going to approach the police. Abhishek has been absconding since then,” police officer Naresh Kumar told The Times of India.
Based on the girl’s statement, a complaint was registered by Gopalganj police against the five men. The police identified the accused as Abhishek, Dipu Dubey, Nitesh Dubey, Lalu Thakur and Lalji Sharma. All the men accused in the crime are now in their 20s, reported Times Now News.
A special investigation team headed by Kumar has been created to arrest the accused. Two of the five accused, Lalu and Lalji, now live and work in a Middle Eastern country, said the police.
The police are working toward having the two men living abroad extradited back to India. They are in the process of gathering passport and visa details to initiate the deportation process of the accused, The Times of India reported.
“The SP will write to state police headquarters, which will inform the Ministry of home affairs and the Ministry of external affairs. Our embassy in the country concerned will be informed to further contact the government there for the dose deportation to India,” Kumar said.
