Man Lies Down On Road After Argument With Girlfriend, Gets Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver
A man in Texas became the victim of a deadly hit-and-run incident after he lay in the middle of the road because of an argument with his girlfriend.
The sheriff's office is now on the lookout for the driver, who ran over the victim and then drove off without rendering any aid following the crash on Tomball Parkway and Perry Road. The series of events began late Tuesday night while the 31-year-old man was in a car with his girlfriend at around 11:20 p.m., the Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) said.
The couple had an altercation before the boyfriend exited the vehicle, according to KIAH. He then laid down in the middle of the road on the Tomball Parkway while the girlfriend drove off in the car eastward.
Deputies said that a driver, within moments, approached the man on the road and struck him as he was lying down. The driver left the crash victim behind with fatal injuries and continued on his way, they added.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle involved in the incident was of a dark color, officials said.
Although it was nighttime, officials noted that the street lights were enough for the driver to see and realize that a man was hit, especially if the car's headlights were switched on, KHOU 11 reported.
"The male was in the roadway so had the driver stopped, there wouldn't have been any causation factors on that person that struck the male. Upon leaving the scene, it's now become basically a failure to stop and render aid investigation at this time," HCSO Sgt. Dashana Cheek reportedly said.
Surveillance footage was retrieved to find details about the driver. Deputies have urged the public to come forward with any information that could help with the investigation.
In an unrelated incident reported last month, a 7-year-old in Georgia succumbed to injuries after a driver struck the child and left them to die on a six-lane highway. Police responded and found the child dead in the roadway. Details were not immediately clear about whether an adult was accompanying the child and why the child was walking on the busy roadway at around 2:15 a.m.
