Man Orally Rapes 8-Year-Old Daughter, Tells Her It's 'What Daddies And Daughters Do'

A 55-year-old man in Dublin, Ireland, was sentenced to seven years in prison this week for sexually assaulting his daughter over two decades ago when she was still a child.

Paul Hamilton, of Knockbrack, Naul, pleaded guilty before the Central Criminal Court to two counts of oral rape and four counts of sexual assault of his daughter, Amanda Hamilton, at the family home in Skerries, Dublin, on unknown dates between Oct. 10, 1999, and April 1, 2002, Irish news outlet Independent.ie first reported.

Justice Michael White sentenced Hamilton to eight years in prison Monday, with the final year being suspended on strict conditions. It was unclear what those conditions were.

The now-29-year-old Amanda, who wished to waive her anonymity, had told police in 2019 that the first instance of abuse occurred when she was 8 years old and her mother was out.

Hamilton showed his daughter a magazine depicting naked people performing oral sex and "guilted" her into saying OK to being orally raped, officer Gemma Macken of Ireland's Garda Síochána national police said.

"This is what daddies and daughters do," Paul had told the child, according to Macken.

Amanda described being assaulted at least eight times for about two years, with most of the incidents happening in her room at night. During one incident, her father had put his penis at the entrance of her vagina and said it did not fit.

Hamilton had been told to leave the family home in 2002 when Amanda's mother learned of the abuses. He still had supervised access to Amanda for a number of years despite no longer living with the two after the departure.

Police interviewed Hamilton in 2019 following Amanda's complaint, where he accepted that he had orally raped and sexually assaulted his daughter. He, however, did not accept the time frame of the abuse that was given by Amanda.

Hamilton was not accepting of blame during the interview, according to Macken. The officer said Hamilton claimed he had wanted to get revenge against the victim's mother, and the best way to do it was through Amanda.

In her impact statement before the court, Amanda said that she felt "immense guilt" throughout her life over her father's actions and that she is still dealing with it today.

"You have sentenced me to life in my own hellish prison," Amanda told her father.

According to Amanda, she had to undergo multiple operations and investigations done with regards to her health in her 20s, with a doctor believing stress was leading her to become sick.

Amanda said she could not find "even the smallest exoneration or excuse" for her father's actions and that it was simply "a preference" for him. Hamilton's "preference," his lack of conscience and his failure as a father has led to "over 21 years of suffering," according to Amanda.

"I absolutely despise you for that," she said.

Amanda also said she did not believe Hamilton was sorry and guilty for what he has done. Additionally, she said her father had lied and changed his story many times.
