Man Physically Assaults Woman Holding Baby Because He Didn't Like Her Appearance
An Indiana man was accused of physically assaulting a woman while she was holding her baby because he didn't like her appearance. Both the mother and child had visible wounds when cops found them. The accused was arrested from his home in Evansville on Tuesday.
Police responded to an address in E. Powell at around 5 p.m. after receiving a report about the incident, according to WFIE. The victim told cops that the accused, Tony Dunn, had been abusive toward her days before his arrest.
The two appeared to be living in the same house, based on the woman's accounts of abuse. Dunn allegedly assaulted her on one occasion because he did not like how the Christmas presents were wrapped up, the victim told cops, adding that he even choked her and threatened to kill her in the days leading up to the arrest.
The woman said she could not call 911 because Dunn had taken her phone away from her, according to WBTV.
Dunn last abused the woman because he allegedly did not like something about her appearance. He threatened to take her baby away from her and claimed she would never see her son again, the victim told deputies.
When the woman took her baby and attempted to leave the residence, Dunn reportedly tried to stop her and attacked her while she was holding her son.
A video of the incident captured Dunn knocking the victim down to the icy ground as the child was still in her arms. Dunn then tried to pull the child away from her and was also captured shoving the woman's head onto the snowy ground.
The abused and battered woman managed to break free after her friend arrived at the scene. However, Dunn succeeded in getting hold of the child while the victim escaped from him. She entered a vehicle and left the area.
Police were notified about the incident and found the victim with several visible injuries and cuts on her head.
Dunn was soon located and found inside his house with a bag of magic mushrooms inside his pocket, officials said. The victim's baby was also found in Dunn's house and had visible injuries on his hand, foot and head.
The man was arrested and is facing charges, which include confinement, neglect resulting in injury, strangulation and battery.
