Man Poisons Wife, 3 Children, Kills Self, Suspected She Had An Affair
A 37-year-old man killed himself after poisoning his wife and children in the north Indian city of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. According to a local report, the man suspected that his wife was cheating on him.
Police were informed about the incident Thursday morning and they arrived at the scene. A team of officials entered their home and broke the door of the room to find the bodies of three children. The children were found with their mouths taped and the man's body lying next to them. Police identified the man only by his first name Pradip.
According to local police, the man was an alcoholic and suspected his wife of having an affair.
"A man has committed suicide after murdering his wife and children in Shatabdi Nagar, Masuri. Prima facie, we found that he was an alcoholic. He suspected that his wife was in a relationship with another man," senior police officer Sudhir Kumar Singh said in a video posted by Ghaziabad police on its official Twitter account.
Local police said they found a suicide note near the body of Pradip in which he explained why he killed himself and his family.
"We have recovered a suicide note. He has stated that he gave poison to his family and later gagged their mouths to kill them. We are registering a case," the officer said.
Police said Pradip and two of his three children had died when authorities arrived at the scene. His wife and the third child, who were in critical condition, died on the way to the hospital. Authorities said an investigation was underway and the bodies of the victims were sent for autopsies. Police were also awaiting the autopsy result on Pradip's body.
A similar incident took place recently in central Pakistan when a man killed his wife and eight of her relatives, including four children, over suspicion that she was having an affair. Police said the man, identified as Ajmal, entered his in-law's home along with his father and brother and opened fire. He then locked the injured persons in a room and set it on fire.
Police said Ajmal committed the crime over suspicions about his wife's character. Ajmal and his father were taken into custody, while the main suspect's brother was absconding. The weapons used in the crime were recovered.
