A 52-year-old man in Hidalgo County, Texas, who has been arrested multiple times for sexually assaulting horses is accused of bestiality again, authorities said.
Cirilo Castillo Jr., of Edinburg, Texas, was arrested Wednesday by special rangers from the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and charged with bestiality, KGBT-TV reported, citing Hidalgo County online booking records.
Castillo's latest arrest came after the victims, whose names were not disclosed, noticed that someone was leaving wooden benches and chairs in the horse stalls on their farm in a rural area between San Juan and Alamo, according to authorities with the association.
A surveillance camera was installed in the stalls to monitor the situation. The victims had a pregnant mare that was scheduled to give birth at the time.
In late March, one of the victims noticed someone laying on the floor of the stalls while looking at the surveillance camera.
The victim then went to the stall and saw an individual standing on a chair toward the rear of the pregnant horse. The individual began fumbling with his pants before fleeing, according to the report.
Authorities said the suspect was wearing a mask during the incident, but following an investigation, officers were able to identify the man as Castillo.
Castillo was released after posting bail of $2,500, WSOC-TV reported, citing online records.
The horse is going to be checked by a veterinarian because there were “defects” in the pony that was born, authorities said.
Castillo had been arrested on the same charges in 2012, 2013 and 2015, according to reports.
In 2012, Castillo admitted to sexually assaulting two horses on separate occasions, the Brownsville Herald reported.
He also pleaded guilty in the 2013 case and was sentenced to five years probation and 77 days jail credit on a charge of cruelty to animals, the report said. During this incident, he tied the horse to a fence before sexually assaulting the animal, the indictment said.
“He is going to continue to do this,” former Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said in 2013 of Castillo. “The people there in the neighborhood are just sick and tired of it, we just need to do something with this.”
In 2015, he was arrested again after being accused of trying to have sex with another horse. Castillo sustained a leg injury after being kicked by the horse but told authorities he was hit by a car and crawled to the barn for shelter.
He was charged with criminal trespass and received five months probation for this case, according to the Brownsville Herald.
