A man in South Yorkshire, England, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after admitting to repeatedly raping a minor girl.

Philip Nichols, of Rotherham, was handed the sentence at Sheffield Crown Court Friday after pleading guilty to several charges, including rape and assault by penetration of a female under 16.

Nichols raped the unidentified victim up to five times per week between March 2020 and July this year, according to a news release from South Yorkshire Police.

He threatened the girl that he would "kill someone she loved" if she "did not let him have sex with her," police said.

Detective Constable Emma Blackburn, who participated in the investigation, said in the statement that Nichols subjected his victim to "abhorrent, prolonged rapes."

He would also take photos and record videos of the abuse "on every occasion," Blackburn said.

The victim told authorities during an interview that she had been raped by Nichols over 100 times, according to the detective constable.

"Nobody should ever have to suffer the way this girl has suffered, and no length of sentence feels like justice. I can only hope the victim can take some comfort that Nichols will never be able to harm her again and I can only commend her bravery and strength that has led to this result," Blackburn said.

The abuse was discovered after the girl told a family member of the rapes in October.

Nichols was arrested on Oct. 7 and admitted his crimes during an interview with police. He was formally charged the following day.

He pleaded guilty to four counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of assault by penetration of a girl under 16.

Aside from the jail sentence, Nichols will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.

The judge also ordered an indefinite restraining order that prevents him from ever contacting his victim.

In related news, a primary school deputy headteacher in Wigan, England, and her boyfriend were sentenced to jail earlier this month after admitting to a string of sexual offenses against a minor girl.

Julie Morris, 44, and her boyfriend, David Morris, 52, abused a girl under 13 years old on numerous occasions between 2018 and 2021.

Julie pleaded guilty to several charges, including two counts of raping a child under 13, three counts of taking indecent images of a child and possessing indecent images of a child and sexual communication with a child, Manchester Evening News reported.

Her boyfriend was also jailed after pleading guilty to 34 charges, including seven counts of raping a child under 13.

Julie was sentenced to 13 years and four months in prison, while David was given a 16-year sentence. They will need to serve at least two-thirds of their sentence in custody before being considered for parole.

Julie and David Morris will have to sign the sex offenders' register for life.
