A 52-year-old man has been accused of robbing a Manhattan, New York bank Thursday — one day after he was released from jail for allegedly pulling off another bank heist days before.
Chi Ngo was accused of robbing two separate Chase Bank branches Tuesday and Thursday, the New York Post first reported, citing sources and court documents.
The alleged recidivist first robbed a branch on Canal Street shortly past 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and nabbed approximately $2,300 in cash, a criminal complaint stated.
"I got a gun with me," he wrote in a note handed to a bank teller, according to the court document. "This is a bank robbery. Put the cash in the bag. I will use it."
Cops were able to arrest Ngo and found a hammer and box cutter on him. According to court records, he was charged with felony third-degree robbery and possession of burglar's tools.
Ngo was arraigned Wednesday and Judge Herb Moses granted a prosecutor's request for Ngo's supervised release, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said.
After his release, Ngo robbed another Chase Bank branch — this time on Fifth Avenue near West 44th Street — just after noon Thursday, sources told the Post. The heist followed a similar setup as his previous one, with Ngo sliding a note to a teller demanding money.
According to police, Ngo got away with $100 during the most recent robbery. He was arrested just minutes later outside the bank, sources said.
Charges for his newest heist were still pending Thursday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear before court again in August, a report by FOX News said.
Court records indicated that Ngo had been previously convicted of a crime but no additional details were provided, as per the Post.
A similar incident occurred in Fresno County, California when police arrested a 34-year-old accused of robbing a bank Tuesday — days after he was released for allegedly robbing a different bank.
Michael Salinas tried to rob a Bank of America in the neighboring county of Madera before leading police on a chase all the way into Fresno.
Authorities said Salinas was arrested last week for a separate robbery at a bank in Fresno. He was released from jail a few days after his arrest but is now back in prison following his latest heist attempt.
