A 35-year-old Chicago man has shot two teenage boys, killing one of them, on suspicion of stealing his car, prosecutors said Monday.

Lynell P. Glover of Round Lake Beach saw the two teenagers, both 17, in his car on Sunday, a few days after it was stolen. Glover followed his black Chevrolet sedan, in which the teenagers traveled, after spotting it at around 2:45 a.m. After a brief chase, the boys finally pulled over at a parking lot as their vehicle ran out of gas.

Glover confronted the teens and a fight ensued. During the commotion, he reportedly ordered them to get on the ground or he would shoot them, according to the prosecutors.

He then pulled out the gun and shot at the teenage boys. He continued to fire more shots as they fled on foot, Assistant State Attorney Steve Scheller said as per Chicago Sun-Times.

The police recovered a 9mm Ruger from the nearby sewer grate. The police later found out that it belonged to Glover's girlfriend.

One of the teens was fatally wounded as the bullet hit his neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other teenager who was shot twice on his leg was later transported to the hospital for treatment.

Glover was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and is expected to have additional charges, reported news outlet Chicago Tribune.

Lake County Coroner has identified the 17-year-old boy who died as Anthony Awad of Hanover Park. However, the surviving youth's name has not been revealed.

The police said that Glover had called 911 and remained at the scene after the incident. He had minor injuries in the fight but did not require any medical treatment.

The suspect is held on a $1 million bail and is not allowed to contact his girlfriend or the surviving victim while he awaits trial. According to the police, the investigation is still underway. They are gathering surveillance video, cell phone video and other evidence related to the incident.

Glover was arrested in November on misdemeanor charges. He was out on bond after the incident, the court documents indicated.

He is expected to be back in court on Jan. 8 for the recent incident.
