Man Sought In String Of Rapes Turns Himself In, Charged with Rape
A man who police said was caught on video at a local Dunkin Donuts moments before he followed a 28 year old woman home and forcibly raped her, turned himself into Brooklyn SVU claiming he is the man on the surveillance tape but he had nothing to do with the crime.
Brooklyn Special Victims Squad detectives charged William Giraldo, 24, of Dyker Heights with rape, robbery and assault charges, police said.
Earlier Tuesday Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Giraldo told detectives he didn't have anything to do with the crimes.
Police said Giraldo forced the woman into the vestibule of her Greenwood Heights apartment, where he threw her on the ground and raped her.
Since March, investigators said that three other women in Sunset Park, Bay Ridge and Park Slope have been assaulted and believe but have not yet connected Giraldo to those crimes, police sources said.
