Man Stabs His Wife 10 Times On Suspicion Of Having An Affair

A man has been accused of stabbing his wife to death over suspicion of having an affair, police said.

The alleged incident happened in the Indian city of Mumbai, Saturday. The police identified the accused as Mahesh Soni, 51. Mahesh allegedly stabbed his wife Poonam, 48, after an argument with her.

He stabbed his wife 10 times inside their house when the couple’s children were away, reported The Indian Express.

Shiva Soni, the couple’s 22-year-old son, told the police that his father was unemployed for the past few years and used to constantly assault his mother. He alleged that his father harassed his mother mentally and physically and stole gold from his two sisters.

The investigators found out that Mahesh was suspicious of Poonam having an affair and frequently argued with her over the issue.

On the day of the incident, the couple got into an argument but the neighbors reportedly did not inform the police. When some of them tried to intervene, Soni threatened to harm them, Times Now News reported.

“The fight went on for long but the neighbors did not inform the local police station, which is just 200 meters away. Some neighbors tried to stop the fight, but the accused reportedly threatened to harm them and locked the room from inside. After a while, when they could not hear the woman, they went to see what happened and found her murdered,” Prakash Bele, senior inspector of police, said.

The neighbors then informed the incident to Mahesh’s son subsequently reported it to the police.

In a similar incident in February, a schizophrenic woman in Hong Kong murdered her husband on suspicion of having an affair. The police arrested the 73-year-old woman for allegedly murdering her 69-year-old husband at their home while the latter was asleep. The woman reportedly got a cleaver from the kitchen and attacked the victim in the middle of the night. The victim who suffered at least six cuts on his head was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead later. The initial investigation revealed that the suspect’s mental state has triggered the incident, although the police said they were investigating into all possibilities.
