A man allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 28-year-old USPS letter carrier before stealing her mail truck in Chicago, Illinois, Saturday.

The postal worker, whose identity was not revealed, found the man hiding inside her mail truck at about 9:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of South Pulaski Road in the Chicago neighborhood of Little Village, the Chicago Sun-Times, citing police.

The suspect, who was described by police as a Hispanic man in his 40s, then directed the woman to drive the truck to a nearby parking lot.

The man allegedly tried to sexually assault her, but she was able to get free, police said.

She was not physically injured but was brought to a hospital for observation, according to authorities.

The man drove off with the mail truck, which was later recovered about five miles south in the 4500 block of West Marquette Road, authorities said.

Police said the suspect had short hair and was last seen wearing a black, puffy jacket over a light-colored sleeveless shirt, dark jeans and black shoes.

The man also had tattoos on the side of his head, his arm and his chest, according to police.

As of this writing, no arrests have been made.

Area Four detectives and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are currently investigating the incident.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering up to $50,000 as a reward for any information that can lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Those with information related to the case are encouraged to call 877-876-2455.

In related news, a 49-year-old man faces charges for allegedly sexually assaulting and beating his roommate to death in Northfield Township, Illinois, Tuesday.

Officers with the Cook County Sheriff's Office were called to a home in the township Tuesday and found a 61-year-old woman lying on the floor of her bedroom with severe injuries throughout her body, Fox 32 reported.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers identified Shinebayar Tudevdorj, the woman's roommate, as the offender and took him into custody.

Tudevdorj is accused of sexually assaulting and beating the victim, which caused multiple severe injuries including swelling and bleeding to the brain.

Tudevdorj was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated criminal sexual assault with bodily harm. He was denied bail at a hearing held Friday at the Skokie Courthouse.
