Man Strangles Woman To Death Over Money, Hides Her Body In Car For Days
A man in India has been detained after he admitted to murdering a 24-year-old woman following a dispute over money. The accused strangled the woman to death and kept the corpse in a car for days, reports said.
The incident occurred in Bilaspur, a city in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, and came to light after cops discovered the body of the missing woman, Priyanka Singh inside the man's car. The suspect, identified as Ashish Sahu was arrested for murder, police said Sunday, as reported by NDTV.
Sahu confessed to the cops that he murdered Singh after they argued over money. He reportedly befriended the victim and convinced her to invest in shares. While Singh initially received returns on her investment, she also reportedly lost ₹ 11,00,000 ($13,450).
Upset over the loss, Singh went to Sahu's store on Nov. 15 and demanded her lost money be returned, which escalated into a heated argument between the two.
"Following a heated argument, the accused strangled her to death and kept her body in the shop, but soon foul odor started emanating. He then kept the body in his car," an investigating officer said, as reported by Times Now News.
The investigation began after Singh's family lodged a missing complaint with the cops when they could not contact her. Investigators traced the suspect after identifying him through Singh's phone records and he eventually confessed to the crime, reports said.
In a similar incident in March, a banker in Italy was arrested for killing a porn star andhiding her dismembered body in a freezer at his home for two months. The suspect Davide Fontana, 43, convinced the victim's family that the woman, Carol Maltesi, was alive by responding to the messages she received on her phone. When Fontana realized cops were investigating her suspicious disappearance, he reportedly stuffed her frozen remains into multiple garbage bags and disposed of them. Cops later discovered the remains and took Fontana into custody.
