Man Thought He Was In Elaborate Scavenger Hunt During Crime Spree
The perpetrator of an unusual chain of car thefts and break-ins in Oregon gave an appropriately unusual explanation for his actions. According to Roger Womack of Milwaukie, Oregon, a potent combination of drugs caused him to believe he was part of an elaborate game, leading to his Tuesday morning crime spree, KGW-8 reported.
The KGW-8 report was an update to a series of incidents that occurred on Tuesday in West Linn, Oregon. Womack stole a Mini Cooper before breaking into and rummaging through at least three other cars, taking assorted items from each. When he was found by police, he had a wallet, a knife and some keys on him from the cars he broke into, KOIN-6 reported.
His night did not end there, however, as Womack then made his way to a decommissioned firehouse now used as a storage facility for the West Linn Historical Society. He packed costumes and props from the educational organization’s inventory into a couple of suitcases, while putting on a pair of overalls he also found there.
Police found him with the suitcases and overalls, hitting him with 11 charges including criminal mischief and burglary. In the KGW-8 report, Womack claimed a combination of meth and heroin made him think he was participating in a scavenger hunt. Having been convicted of burglary and similar crimes over the past 20 years, Womack expressed remorse for his actions, saying he just wants to get a job and live a normal life.
Meth is a stimulant, while heroin is an opiate, meaning the two drugs essentially have opposite chemical effects on the body. When combined, an opiate and stimulant together are colloquially known as a “speedball.” The specific combination of heroin and meth can result in “intense euphoria rush” along with heightened heart rate, according to American Addiction Centers.
