Man Utd To Shift Focus From Sancho To Striker Who Earns $771,000-A-Week: Report

Manchester United have reportedly decided to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid instead of Borrusia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho this summer.

Sancho has been Manchester United's top target going into the current transfer window, but his arrival at Old Trafford increasingly looks unlikely, ever since the club missed Dortmund’s Aug. 10 deadline to meet the England national’s asking price of $140 million.

Real Madrid have been desperate to offload Bale this summer after the Welshman made just 14 starts last season and earns a wage of $771,000-a-week.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo has reported that Man Utd are planning to shift their focus from Sancho to Bale this summer, but will only pay around $23 million for the 31-year-old forward. Signing Bale on loan would make more sense for Man Utd and the Spanish report has also claimed that amid the current financial crisis across the world, getting rid of Bale looks difficult, which is why Real Madrid could agree to pay half of Bale’s wage.

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to revamp this side at the ongoing transfer market in order to help the Red Devils challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title. Bale, who has repeatedly expressed a desire to leave Los Blancos over the last year or so, could be a great addition to Solskajer’s squad that already boasts the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood, and Bruno Fernandes.

Bale came close to leaving Real Madrid last summer for China’s Jiangsu Suning before the La Liga giants blocked the move at the last minute.

Last week, Wales' Bale was on international duty playing in the UEFA Nations League, where he once again admitted that he wants to leave Real Madrid.

"What can I say? I want to play football. I am still motivated to play football so I guess it is in the club really. I can't do anything, they are in control of everything. I have a contract so all I can do is carry on what I am doing and hopefully something comes up. It is in the club's hands and they have made things very difficult, to be honest," he said in a post-match interview.
