A 22-year-old man in Florida, who was held for posing as a doctor when he was a teenager, has been freed from custody with about 20 months left into his 3.5-year sentence. Malachi Love-Robinson, alternatively known as "Dr. Love," also faced larceny charges while being arrested.

Policed seized the man in Virginia in September, 2016, when he allegedly tried to buy a car using an illegal employment information.

Love -Robinson was sentenced on Jan. 4, 2018, to prison under various charges including grand theft and practicing medicine without a license.

Robinson was convicted of stealing more than $20,000 from an 86-year-old person in West Palm Beach County who was allegedly his patient back in 2015. He had tricked her into giving away her money during a series of visits to her home while posing as a doctor.

Authorities said Love-Robinson roamed around in a hospital wearing a doctor's gown but did not treat anyone else, NBC News reported.

He was said to have opened his own medical clinic when he was 18-years-old. Love-Robinson defended himself saying he never posed as a medical doctor but introduced himself as a naturopathic physician.

"What he was trying to do, he was trying to do for the better good and not harm anybody," said Love-Robinson's grandmother, Rebecca McKenzie, after court. She further added, “I think he’s going to be alright in the long run."

He was released Monday and given credit for time served before his sentencing, NBC News reported. According to Tampa Bay Times, Love-Robinson, who had been out on bail worth $18,000, was released after another $8,000 in bail that followed.
