Manchester United Confident To Beat Real Madrid In Race To Sign $30M-Worth Midfielder: Report
Manchester United reportedly are confident that they are ahead of Real Madrid in the race to sign teenager star Eduardo Camavinga from French side Rennes.
It was earlier reported that after the likes of Arsenal, Dortmund and FC Barcelona pulled out of the running to sign the French star, Real Madrid were tipped to be at the pole position to grab the player’s signatures this summer. It is understood that the Real manager, Zinedine Zidane, is a huge fan of the fellow Frenchman and has identified the midfielder as a long-term replacement for 28-year-old Casemiro.
Camavinga, 17, made his senior team debut this season. Even though he has scored just once in 36 games for Rennes’ first team in the ongoing 2019-20 season, the midfielder is regarded on par with the likes of Man Utd’s star Paul Pogba and hence, there is no surprise seeing the Old Trafford side interested in signing him.
A report in Metro UK has claimed that in a bid to tempt Camavinga and beat Real in the race to sign him, Man Utd have decided to send the player back to Rennes on a season-long loan after signing him. Rennes, who finished in the third place when Ligue 1 was scrapped earlier due to the coronavirus outbreak, will play the Champions League next season and they will be more than relieved to still have Camavinga for the big tournament.
The report further stated that over the last year or so, Man Utd boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, had his eyes on Camavinga and is certain that the Red Devils will beat Real to bring Camavinga to Old Trafford for a fee of around $30 million.
It is believed that Rennes had labeled the player with a price tag of $73 million but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has lowered the price. Camavinga, who became the youngest-ever player to represent the French side last season, still has two more seasons left in his current contract. However, if he moved to Man Utd next season, that would ease the pressure on the club even if Pogab departed from Old Trafford.
