  • Werner's move to Liverpool is 'effectively done', reveals player's agent
  • Werner's release clause at Leipzig is due to expire in 11 days
  • He has scored 31 goals in 40 matches this season

Timo Werner, one of the most talented young strikers in Europe at present, is being chased by several clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool FC ahead of the summer transfer window.

Werner’s agent reportedly has informed Man Utd and Chelsea that the player's deal with Liverpool is “effectively done”, as reported by metro.uk. It is understood that when Bundesliga was suspended earlier this year due to the outbreak of coronavirus, Werner met Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, a fellow German, three times where the latter assured the player that he was wanted at Anfield.

The report also mentioned that while RB Leipzig’s Werner has agreed to personal terms with Liverpool, which promised $175,000-a-week to the striker, both the clubs have not reached the final terms and conditions in Werner’s deal.

Meanwhile, a report in SkySports has stated that Werner’s transfer is still wide open for clubs such as Man Utd and Chelsea. However, Liverpool are regarded as front-runners in the race to sign the 24-year-old forward.

The clubs have 11 days, to be precise, to trigger Werner’s release clause of $61 million at RB Leipzig, which is due to expire on June 15. The report further stated that even though Werner’s first choice club is Liverpool, the Reds are not willing to meet his price tag set by the German side.

Werner, who joined Leipzig ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, signed a contract extension last summer and that means, he is contracted with the German club until 2023. However, the striker is tipped to leave the club at the upcoming summer window and has made it clear that he wants to join a club that could offer him Champions League play regularly.

Having played 40 matches, across competitions, for Leipzig this season, Werner has netted 31 goals, and overall he has scored 92 goals for the club in as many as 154 games since his debut for them in 2016.
